The following artworks play at the intersection of sculpture and painting. They explore both the physical mark of sculpture and the optical effect of painting, and their combined impression.
The bas-relief, physical impression, is an attempt to archive a moment, slow time, juxtaposed with a composition designed to move the eye quickly through sculpted brushstrokes.
In contrast, the impression given by the painted surface is intentionally airy and quiet; concerned with light – in contrast to the gravity of the sculpture. Paying close attention to atmosphere and the particle-like nature of light, these paintings find solace in a moment while quieting fears of aloneness.
